The Measure Of A Man
A spiritual autobiography
by Sidney Poitier

Sidney Poiter was the first black actor to win an Academy award for his performance in Lilies of the Field, in 1963.  In his first book he wrote about his professional life, but in this book he writes about his life from his values and beliefs. He shares openly and candidly about his struggles and joys to live up to these ideals in a world that was giving him other messages. In some cases the messages were about his race, but other times it was about personal integrity. The essence of this book comes alive as he tells about his journey to live a life that was truly in alignment with what he valued and believed.

Things will Get As Good As You Can Stand
By Laura Doyle

I love the title of this book, mostly because it is so true.   We can have what we want most in our life just by paying attention to what we believe and how we think.  This book looks at some of the things that get in the way of being open to receiving the abundance that is available to each of us.  It is written in short narratives on topics like, I Was Standing In My Own Way and Will My Real Desire Please Stand Up.  This book is a combination of wisdom, common sense and encouragement that helps you remember that abundance is available for all.

The Secret
by Rhonda Byrne

This book and the video, also called The Secret, have been getting a lot of attention after it aired in the Oprah show in February.  I would recommend both the video and the book as they are both excellent. The Secret is a collection of the wisdom taken from philosophies that have been around through the ages as well as the teachings of current spiritual leaders.  The basic premise is that you can create what you want in your life through belief, intention and action.  This is called the Law of Attraction.  It is through our thoughts that we create our reality because our thoughts are directly correlated to our actions. A quote in the book from Henry Ford says, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.” This book is a testament to the power of our mind to create what we want in our lives.

A Big new Free Happy Unusual Life
by Nina Wise

This book was written as a way for people to find peace and well-being in their life through self expression and spiritual practice. The book was written six weeks after the destruction of the World Trade Center and at a time when our world needed much healing.  It recognizes that each of us can help heal the world by healing ourselves and restoring a sense of peace to our lives. There are many ways for self expression and spiritual practice and this book explores many ways to do that as well ways to practice it.

I attended your Stories of Hope and it was wonderful. I was so relaxed and felt so peaceful. Thank you for a truly healing evening!
