Biofeedback
What is Biofeedback? Biofeedback is a process in which people are taught to use signals from their own body to improve health and reduce stress. It is a mind-body approach that helps people have greater connection to their own health and well-being.
Biofeedback uses sensors to measure such things as heart rate, hand temperature, and blood pressure. Through this information or feedback people learn to have more control of their body responses to increase overall functioning.
What are the benefits of biofeedback? Biofeedback has been used successfully to decrease symptoms related to many health problems including the following:
•Migraines and headaches • Depression • Anxiety • Panic disorders • Sleep problems • Chronic pain—neck, back, shoulders and other areas • TMJ syndrome • Fibromyalgia • Raynauds • ADD/ADHD • Hypertension
The popularity of biofeedback has increased in recent years because it is a non-invasive, non-drug, client centered intervention. It is safe and powerful in the effects it provides. The therapist works with you as a coach or guide, leading you step by step into successful responses that improves your overall quality of life and health.
Because biofeedback is a training and learning process, standard treatment may run from 10 to 20 sessions. Your insurance may cover this process or you may choose to use one of our package programs for out of pocket pay. Ask our office staff for help or more information.
